1) RAM - Main memory of the computer. The more RAM available, more programs can be loaded and the data performance is better
Dynamic RAM: Has one transistor that holds a charge for each bit, needs to be maintained and refreshed
Static RAM: uses 4/5 transistors wired together for each bit of data, charge does not need to be refreshed
2) ROM - Read only memory that is non-volatile and holds the boot sequence to start the OS
3) Virtual memory - Part of the hard disk that is used as temporary storage is the RAM is being overused, however this means switching programs is slower, so the performance is not as good
