Question Answer
How is DNA duplicated?Semiconservative, which means the new DNA strand is assemled directly on a preexisting DNA template.
How is RNA synthesised?By RNA polymerase from a DNA template. This is called transcription.
Which components are required to synthesise RNA?A template, precursors (ATP, GTP, UTP, CTP) and a divalent metal ion (Mg2+)
What is exon shuffling?A way of creating new genes, by inserting new exons onto a template. This interrupts the reading pattern.
What is alternative splicing?Cutting out intron and putting exons together in differnet orders, create multiple proteins from a single gene.
