DiseasePeriod of isolation (period of communicability)
Chicken poxuntil all lesions crusted ,usually 6 days after onset of rash
Measlesfrom onset of catarrhal stage to 3rd day of rash
German measlesNONE (Except that women in 1st trimester pregnancy or sexually active ,non immune women in child bearing years not using contraceptive measures should not be exposed )
Cholera ,Diphtheria3 days after tetracycline started ,until 48 hrs of antibiotics (or negative cultures after treatment)
Shigellosis, Salmonellosisuntil 3 consecutive negative stool cultures
Hepatitis A3 weeks
Influenza 3 days after onset
Polio2 weeks in adults ,6 weeks in paediatrics
Sputum positive tuberculosisuntil 3 weeks of effective chemotherapy
Herpes zoster6 days after onset of rash
Mumpsuntil swelling subsides
Pertussis4 weeks or until paroxysms cease
Meningococcal meningitis / streptococcal pharyngitisuntil first 6 hours of effective antibiotic therapy
