Term	Definition
ablation	removal or destruction of a body part
abscess	enclosed collection of pus in tissues, organs, or confined spaces in the body
absorption	process of taking nutrients from the digestive system into the blood
achlorhydria	A lack of hydrochloric acid in the digestive juices in the stomach
acute	Symptoms or signs that begin and worsen quickly
adenocarcinoma	Cancer that begins in cells that line certain internal organs and that have gland-like properties.
adenoma	A noncancerous tumor.
adjunct therapy	Another treatment used together with the primary treatment. Its purpose is to assist the primary treatment.
adjuvant therapy	Treatment given after the primary treatment to increase the chances of a cure.
