| ablation | removal or destruction of a body part |
| abscess | enclosed collection of pus in tissues, organs, or confined spaces in the body |
| absorption | process of taking nutrients from the digestive system into the blood |
| achlorhydria | A lack of hydrochloric acid in the digestive juices in the stomach |
| acute | Symptoms or signs that begin and worsen quickly |
| adenocarcinoma | Cancer that begins in cells that line certain internal organs and that have gland-like properties. |
| adenoma | A noncancerous tumor. |
| adjunct therapy | Another treatment used together with the primary treatment. Its purpose is to assist the primary treatment. |
