The APACHE system consists of 4 components:1. Age 2. major disease category (reason for ICU admission) 3. Acute (current) physiology 4. Prior site of healthcare (ER, general floor)
When must APACHE scoring be done?within 24 hours of admission
APACHE Score0-71
Higher scores indicate a more severe disease and higher risk of death
A score of >50 is associated with increased mortality in non pregnant cardiac and trauma patients
