Section

Respiratory: Related to the respiratory system
Metabolic: doesn't relate to the respiratory system
Respiratory acidosis: under stimulation: hypoventilation, airway obstruction or depression, inflammation, sedative medications, brain trauma
Respiratory alkalosis: over stimulation: patient on ventilator (risk for overstimulation), fever, hyperventilation, hypoxia, hysteria( fast breathing, pain
Metabolic acidosis: increase of hydrogen ions in blood or decrease in bicarbonate, diarrhea, aspirin, high-fat diet, diabetic ketoacidosis/lactic acid/malnutrition fat catabolism (build of acid and ketones), renal failure
Ketoacidosis: insufficient amount of insulin leads to access of ketones, DM1,
metabolic alkalosis: increase in bicarbonate or loss of H+, vomiting, diuretics( lose hydrogen), excess sodium bicarbonate, hyperaldosteronism, whole blood transfusions (bicarbonate metabolized in stored blood)
Acidosis manifestations: drowsy, disorientation, headache, coma, decre bp, dysrhythmia, skin warm/flushed / vasodilation, respiratory rate/ depth increases to exhale acids, H+ in cell, potassium out( potassium increases)
Question Answer
Alkalosis manifestationsdrowsy, dizzy, confusion, tachycardia/ dysrhythmia, anorexia/naus/vom, resp rate/depth decrease= carbon Monoxide retained
