Why should I use Memorize.com?

It can make memorizing quick and low-stress. Memorizing can be time-consuming and tedious but it doesn't have to be.

It's Fast

Both memorizing and creating content to memorize are very fast. The format for creating pages is designed for speed and flexibility.
No sign up is required. Just go to memorize.com and click 'create page' and quickly create a page you can share with others.

It's Flexible

Memorize how you want: You can quickly switch between flashcard, matching, and multiple-choice modes (or any combination).
Try using multiple choice to start out with, or maybe alternate between matching and flashcards - whatever works best for you.
Make your content how you want it: The flexible format lets you break long lists down into smaller, easy-to-handle groups.
Aside from the content to memorize you can add explanatory text as well as headings, images and diagrams.
As you memorize, you can edit the text to add hints or improve the wording.

It's collaborative

Share pages you create with friends or colleagues
Email the url or share via twitter or facebook, etc.
Create your own versions of others' pages
Then compare versions and merge
Follow the updates made by users

Isn't memorization bad?

A certain amount of memorization is necessary (who would trust a surgeon who couldn't recall the names of the organs on which he operates?). However, an over-emphasis on memorization can indeed cause a shallow understanding of a subject and less appreciation for abstract concepts, problem solving, and original thought.

Memorize.com's goal is to take the focus off of memorization by making it simple and fast, so there's ample time for the important stuff.

An under-acknowlegedment of memorization's role in learning is also worth avoiding. Boredom and a lack of comprehension often come from high-level discussions when the simpler lower-level terms and concepts haven't been sufficiently communicated. Taking a couple minutes to memorizing a few succinct, well-worded definitions can help one prepare for high-level discussion, making it more inderstandable and less intimidating. Later the same material can be used to quickly review.

We believe memorizing has its place - it should be easy, unintimidating, and very fast, and should augment other means of learning.

What makes memorize.com different

Memorize.com pages are free-form and can contain multiple short, easy-to-handle tables with textual explanations (and diagrams etc) in between them. Thus you can make pages that assist memorization as well as explain a concept.

As you view the pages, you can choose the memorization method that works for you, and create hints, and edit and add to the pages as you go. (See Editing Quickstart.)
