Freedom 1The A/C of one country has the right to fly over another countries civil airspace without landing in order to reach its destination country. Example A flight from Canada to Cuba, flown by a Canadian airline, flying over the United States.
Freedom 2The A/C of one country has the right to make a technical stop in another country - such as refueling and maintenance BUT without picking/disembarking passengers Example: Air India to New York makes a halt in London for refueling ONLY
Freedom 3The A/C has the right to carry passengers from its registered/home country to another country. Air India carries passengers from Bombay to Bangkok NON STOP
Freedom 4An A/C has the right to carry passengers from another country to it's own registered home country. US Airways flies passengers from Mexico City to Washington DC NON STOP.
Freedom 5An A/C has the right to carry passengers from country A to country B, and then pick up/ drop off passengers from country B to country C AS LONG AS the A/C has originated from its Home country Registered or the flight terminates in it's own country of registration. Example: Air China flies from New York to Hong Kong, makes a full stop in Vancouver...passengers disembark. Some cargo/passengers embark in Vancouver and the A/C continues to Hong Kong.
Freedom 6An A/C has the right to carry traffic between two foreign countries VIA it's own STATE OF REGISTRY/Home country. Etihad Flight Munich to Mumbai, makes a full stop in Abu Dhabi and then continues to Mumbai
