glycolysis

Question Answer
glucose +2ATP +NAD+ + 4ADP +4Pi yields2 pyruvate + 2 ADP + 2Pi +2NADH +4ATP
where does pyruvate go02-> mitochondria-> pyruvate oxidation. or fermentation when O2 is not present
where does 2ADP+2Pi gorecycled to ATP
where does 2NADH + O2 gogoes through krebs cycle or fermentation
where does 4ATP goused for cellular processes in mitochondria
what is glycolysisConsists of 10 sequential enzyme-catalyzed reactions that led to the oxidation of the 6-carbon sugar glucose, producing two molecules of the 3-carbon compound pyruvate.

three things to know about glycolysis

Question Answer
Initially 2 ATP are consumed as glucose and fructose-6-phosphate become phosphorylated. In energy investment phase, 2 ATP increase the free energy of the chemicals in the glycolytic pathwayHowever even more free energy is released in the payoff phase, as 4 ATP and 2 NADH molecules are synthesized.
Besides yielding a net of 2 ATP and 2 NADH for each molecule of glucose that is oxidized, no carbon is lost. All 6 carbons in glucose are accounted for in the 2 molecules of pyruvate. However since glucose has been partially oxidized the potential energy in 2 molecules of pyruvate is less than the potential energy in one molecule of glucose. Although 2 water molecules were produced in step 9, they're not usually included in the overall equation for glycolysis bcuz they're later consumed in the hydrolysis of the 2ATP molecules and the reforming of 2ADP and 2Pi.
During glycolysis, ATP is produced using substrate level phosphorylation. In this mode of ATP synthase , an enzyme transfers a phosphate group from a high energy substrate molecule to ADP producing ATP.

pyruvate

Question Answer
at the end of glycolysis2 pyruvate is produced
if oxygen is presentpyruvate oxidation occurs to form acetyl coA
if oxygen is not presentfermentation A)alcohol ethanol + co2 B)lactate fermentation - lactic acid
if atp is not requiredpyruvate is converted into glucose→ gluconeogenesis
pyruvate can be converted into amino amino acid, alanine

pyruvate oxidation

Question Answer
When oxygen is present, each pyruvate will enter the mitochondria and the mitochondria and three changes occur to pyruvate
1)carbon dioxide is removed from pyruvate by the enzyme pyruvate decarboxylasecarbon dioxide diffuses out of cell as waste
2)The carbon compound (pyruvate) is oxidized by NAD+.pyruvate is oxidized to acetic acid and NAD+ is reduced to NADH
3)Coenzyme A (CoA) is attached to the acetic acid and forms acetyl-CoA. This molecule is then moved onto the krebs cycle
equation: 2 pyruvate +2CoA+2NAD+ -> 2 acetyl-coA +2NADH +2CO2
where does 2 acetyl coa gokrebs cycle
where does 2NADH goelectron transport chain
where does 2co2 godiffuses as waste
